The Karaiskakis Foundation convened the Annual Meeting of the CARE FOR RARE project’s Steering Committee, gathering representatives from the Swiss Embassy, Cyprus Cooperation Program, project partners, and key national stakeholders. The meeting focused on evaluating the project’s progress and planning upcoming phases, including the development of permanent care facilities and expansion of patient services.
Attendees toured the project’s temporary facilities where ongoing clinical support services for individuals with rare diseases are provided. Presentations highlighted the progress made in governance, infrastructure, financial planning, and communication strategies, as well as the enhancement of specialized multidisciplinary care and genetic counseling services.
Plans for the next phase include advancing the construction bidding for the permanent CARE FOR RARE Center and acquiring specialized medical equipment. The initiative aims to establish a comprehensive national framework for rare disease diagnosis and management, substantially improving access to specialized healthcare across Cyprus.
