🍽️ 16th Cyprus Wine Competition Awards 39 Wineries with Medals Including Three Grand Golds for Sweet Wines
The 16th Cyprus Wine Competition, held in April, featured 145 wines from 30 wineries and resulted in 39 medal winners, including three grand gold awards for sweet wines. The event, supported by the agriculture ministry, Cyprus’ EU presidency, and the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, was judged by a seven-member expert committee led by French oenologist Dominique Tusseau. The competition is now scheduled biannually.
In addition to the competition, the ministry organised wine tasting events across Pafos, Limassol, and Nicosia, allowing the public to meet winemakers and sample their wines. Highlighted wines include 2025 Kolios Winery's Iris Spourtiko, known for its exotic fruit aromas, and several distinguished Xynisteri varietals such as 2023 Vlassides Winery Alates and 2025 Krasopoulin Winery Yiayia, which showcased vibrant acidity and mineral characters. These selections underscore the diversity and quality of Cypriot winemaking.
Other notable wines praised for their balance and distinctive profiles include 2023 Kamanterena Project X, 2025 Papaioannou Winery offerings, 2024 Monolithos Premium Muscat of Alexandria, and innovative blends like Fikardos Winery's White Shadow Mavro. These achievements reflect Cyprus’s growing reputation in the international wine scene.
