👮 Direct Democracy MP Diana Constantinide shares personal loss in femicide debate amid Limassol attempted murder case
Direct Democracy MP Diana Constantinide revealed she lost her mother to murder in 1993, speaking out during renewed discussions on femicide in Cyprus following a recent attempted murder in Limassol. Constantinide emphasized the lasting personal impact of such losses, especially on the children left behind, describing herself as a “collateral loss” of murder.
She highlighted the importance of support for victims’ families and urged women experiencing abuse to find strength and speak out. The murders of Christine Constantinide and Oxana Lisna in 1993, which shocked the nation, remain significant in the ongoing conversation about gender-based violence.
The recent Limassol case, where a police officer shot his wife before killing himself, has led to increased scrutiny of domestic violence issues. Between 2021 and 2026, Cyprus recorded over 18,000 domestic violence complaints but fewer than 4,000 arrests, prompting calls for stronger measures to address femicide and gun control.
