👮 Labour Inspection Finds 39 Undeclared Workers in April, Issues Fines Totaling €88,200
The Labour Inspection Department identified 39 undeclared salaried employees during April inspections across 156 locations. Sixteen fines, amounting to €88,200, were issued as a result of these findings. The inspections aimed to raise awareness about the legal consequences of undeclared work.
Among the inspected premises, 147 were employers and nine self-employed individuals, with a total of 434 workers checked. The workers included 142 Greek Cypriots, four Turkish Cypriots, 110 European Union citizens, and 178 third country nationals.
Cyprus law imposes a €1,000 fine per undeclared worker for each month of violation, increasing by €500 every six months. Repeat violations within two years result in higher fines of €2,000 for a second infraction and €3,000 for subsequent violations, underscoring the government’s efforts to deter undeclared employment.
