🌍 Cyprus Advances Maritime Leadership at IMO Council Session in London
Cyprus is reaffirming its commitment to shaping international maritime policy with a focus on sustainability, competitiveness, and safe navigation, Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanolis said during a visit to London. The visit, held from July 6 to 9, coincided with the 137th session of the International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) Council, where Cyprus actively promoted its maritime sector.
At an event hosted by the Deputy Ministry of Shipping at the IMO headquarters, key challenges such as decarbonisation, maritime safety, and marine environmental protection were highlighted. Hadjimanolis emphasized the importance of international cooperation and realistic solutions to address these issues. Cyprus continues to be one of the world’s major maritime powers, supported by the 11th largest ship registry globally and a leading hub for third-party ship management.
In addition to the event, Hadjimanolis held a bilateral meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority to discuss strengthening cooperation, including finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding. The visit also served to promote the Cyprus registry and enhance Cyprus’ presence in the global shipping market, underscoring the island’s central role in the international maritime community.
