🏆 Seven young Cypriot athletes to compete at Balkan Under 20 Championships in Romania
Seven young athletes from Cyprus will represent the island at the Balkan Under 20 Athletics Championships in Craiova, Romania, on Saturday. The team consists of five men and two women competing in sprint, hurdles, jumping, and throwing events. Two athletes, Andreas Savva (110m hurdles) and Loukas Pero (long jump), aim to achieve qualifying standards for the World Under 20 Championships. Savva needs to improve his personal best from 14.07 to 14.05 seconds, while Pero targets a jump of 7.58 meters, up from 7.43 meters.
The Cypriot delegation, led by GSO president Kyriakos Tsolakis and accompanied by coaches Elli Evangelidou and Kyriakos Antoniou, will begin competition in the early evening. Other team members include sprinter Lambros Christofides, hurdler Charalambos Zenonos, discus thrower Emilios Alexandrou, and women’s 100m hurdlers Chisom Grace Iheaka and Isabella Sofia Mosetti. Cyprus has a strong history at the Balkan Under 20 Championships, having won 27 medals in the past five appearances, and hopes this year's team will continue that tradition while gaining valuable international experience.
