👮 Larnaca court rejects dismissal application in Pyla torture case involving two defendants
The criminal court in Larnaca has rejected a request by a 48-year-old defendant to dismiss the Pyla torture case on grounds of abuse of process, calling the application premature. The case, involving allegations of torture, abduction, and organised criminal activity from the summer of 2025, was adjourned until July 30 for the defendants to enter pleas.
Two men, aged 48 and 27, face serious charges including torture, unlawful deprivation of liberty, grievous bodily harm, and assault. The defence argued that two separate indictments should have been combined, but the court ruled this claim unsupported at this stage. Six alleged victims are involved, including Cypriot, Indian, Arab, and European nationals.
Larnaca’s criminal investigation department continues to investigate the incidents, while the court maintains strict security measures during proceedings.
