🛩️ Greek fighter jets to remain stationed at Paphos airbase indefinitely to protect Cyprus airspace
Four Greek F-16 fighter jets stationed at Andreas Papandreou Airbase in Paphos will continue to be based there indefinitely, according to Cyprus Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas. The jets are deployed to protect Nicosia’s Flight Information Region from air threats and form part of ongoing security measures in Cypriot airspace.
Minister Palmas emphasized that although the situation will be reviewed and monitored daily, the presence of Greek military aircraft and ships in Cyprus will be adjusted but not withdrawn. Plans are underway to replace the current fighter jets with a different type from the Greek Air Force. Additionally, the Greek frigate ELLI currently in Cypriot waters is expected to be swapped while its crew takes rest.
Locals and tourists have been filming the daily flights of these jets over Paphos, capturing their formations and landings, which highlight the heightened security presence in the region.
