👮 Over 1,000 arrested in global anti-human trafficking operation including raids in Cyprus
A large-scale international operation against human trafficking, codenamed "GLOBAL CHAIN," led to 1,024 arrests across 59 countries, including Cyprus, where searches were conducted in pubs and apartments. The operation, coordinated by Europol, Frontex, and Interpol, targeted criminal networks involved in sexual exploitation, forced criminal activities, and begging.
The operation uncovered 2,070 potential victims, mainly from Latin American countries such as Colombia, Argentina, and Venezuela. A significant 86.4% of the identified minors were exploited sexually. Around 40,000 law enforcement personnel participated globally, conducting rigorous checks on over 565,000 individuals.
In Cyprus, 17 coordinated enforcement actions took place, identifying 57 women; however, none were found to be victims of trafficking after detailed evaluations. One individual was found residing illegally. The international effort highlights the cross-border nature of trafficking networks and intensifies efforts to dismantle them and protect vulnerable victims worldwide.
