👮 MMAD disarms 31-year-old man in Polis Chrysochous following threats with a knife
Members of the Mobile Unit for Antiterrorist and Defense (MMAD) intervened in Polis Chrysochous to disarm a 31-year-old man who threatened his relatives while holding a knife inside his home. After negotiations failed, the special unit successfully disarmed the man and completed a court-ordered compulsory hospitalization.
The 31-year-old, a third-country national, was subject to a hospitalisation order from the Athalassa psychiatric hospital, issued following a request from his family. Police received reports of the man displaying aggressive behavior and refusing to communicate.
Despite an attempt by a specialist police negotiator, the man locked himself in a room holding the knife, prompting MMAD's intervention in the evening. The man was disarmed without incident and transferred to Nicosia for psychiatric treatment as mandated by the court order.
