🏗️ Restoration projects underway in Limassol mountain communities one year after devastating wildfire
One year after Cyprus's most destructive wildfire, mountainous communities in Limassol are actively implementing restoration projects funded by the XM Group. The initiative, "Revive Limassol by XM," is a private-public partnership aimed at long-term resilience and regional development, with four major community projects currently under construction.
Architects Michalis Pirokkas and Pavlos Siakallis have designed multiple community hubs including the Souni-Zanatzia and Agios Therapon parks, featuring playgrounds, sports facilities, and cultural pavilions that harmonize with the natural landscape. Additionally, revitalization efforts in Vouni include a multi-level historical community space and a zip-line, while Agios Amvrosios will see a modern football stadium serving multiple villages.
The projects prioritize community needs, functionality, and integration with the environment. With construction timelines set for 18 months after securing permits, these developments aim to restore communal gathering spaces and boost local engagement while preserving the region's cultural and natural heritage.
