🌴 Cyprus explores industrial tourism with visits to factories, dairies, and quarries
The Nicosia Tourism Board is exploring the development of industrial tourism in Cyprus, aiming to create visitor experiences focused on working production facilities. This initiative will enable tourists to learn how local products like halloumi cheese, wines, and ice cream are made, while gaining insight into the island’s industrial heritage.
Although Cyprus lacks heavy industry, sectors such as food production and mining offer strong tourism potential. Proposed attractions include guided tours of dairies, wineries, ice cream manufacturers, quarries, and the Troodos Unesco Global Geopark. The project prioritizes visitor safety and minimizing disruptions to normal operations.
Currently in the planning stage, this initiative is part of the four-year European IndusTour project funded by the EU and Interreg Europe. Local authorities are studying successful policies from other countries to develop authentic and educational industrial tourism experiences that could raise the profile of Cyprus’ businesses and industries.
