🏗️ European Commission reviews Cyprus Thalia 2021-2027 development projects advancing green and digital goals
European Commission representatives recently conducted an annual review tour of numerous sites funded by the Thalia 2021-2027 programme, a €1.8 billion initiative aimed at boosting jobs and economic growth in Cyprus through green and digital transitions. The tour highlighted projects nearing completion or already completed, including the Apollon solar panel park at the University of Cyprus, which became operational in September 2023 and is expected to supply nearly half of the university’s energy needs.
Other notable visits included new research facilities at the university's engineering school, funded with €20.8 million, the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, and the Tsiakkileros multifunctional park in Larnaca that offers sports and outdoor activities. Representatives also inspected the newly rebuilt Evanthia Pieridou senior care home and engaged with projects related to water management, innovation, and support for independent living among people with disabilities.
Thalia 2021-2027, co-funded by EU Cohesion Policy and Cyprus national funds, stands as the country's largest public development programme, underscoring Cyprus’s commitment to sustainable economic development and social inclusion.
