⚔️ Akel Famagusta urges relocation of military camp near Liopetri primary school over safety concerns

Akel Famagusta has called on Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas to reconsider the location of the “Modestos Panteli” military camp in Liopetri due to longstanding safety concerns. The party highlighted that the camp and associated military storage facilities are situated near homes and Liopetri’s first primary school, within a densely populated residential area.

Established around 1980 on a former community football ground, the camp is now centrally located amid urban development. Akel expressed worries about potential risks to children and residents, particularly highlighting the proximity of military storage around the school perimeter. While the party does not question the National Guard’s role, it stresses that public safety and modern urban planning standards necessitate reevaluation of the camp’s location.

The Defence Ministry stated that previous concerns have been addressed, including the removal of dangerous equipment, and promised a response to Akel’s recent letter. Akel urges transparency regarding safety measures and warns that protecting citizens, especially schoolchildren, must be prioritized before any accident occurs.
