💰 Cyprus registered unemployment rises to 10,056 in June 2026 driven by public administration and food services

Unemployment in Cyprus increased in June 2026, with registered unemployed rising to 10,056, marking a 9.9% increase from 9,153 in June 2025, according to data from the Statistical Service (Cystat). The rise was mainly driven by sectors including accommodation and food services, public administration, education, and health and social work. Compared to May, when registered unemployment was 7,936, the increase also reflects seasonal trends, especially in education and public administration.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the number of unemployed reached 10,656 in June, up from 10,543 in May and remaining above 10,000 for the first half of the year. Public administration and defense had the highest unemployment figure at 2,306, with education and accommodation sectors also showing significant rises. Conversely, sectors like agriculture, forestry, fishing, and water supply reported decreases in registered unemployment compared to the previous year.

Cystat clarified that the figures include individuals aged 15 and over registered at district and local labor offices who are able, available, and actively seeking work. The overall data highlights ongoing challenges in the labor market across several key industries in Cyprus.
