🎉 Cypriot Artist PASHIAS Performs 'DIVA' at Trinity College Dublin Exploring Mythology and Social Issues

Cypriot visual artist PASHIAS completed a two-day public performance titled "DIVA" at Trinity College Dublin, focusing on archaeology, mythology, and contemporary social challenges. The live performance, featuring participant Angelika Gana, took place at the university's bell tower and drew inspiration from the archaeological artifact Aphrodite of Soloi, symbolizing beauty, strength, and resilience. The artwork challenged societal norms of gender, identity, and social roles, reflecting on themes beyond the binary while mirroring the endurance of civilizations through changing weather conditions.

Following the performance, a public forum was held at the Old Anatomy Museum with contributions from archaeologist Dr. George Papantoniou, academics, and the artists themselves. The event was part of Trinity's "Pride at Trinity College Dublin" program promoting LGBTQI+ visibility and rights, aligning with PASHIAS’ exploration of the body as a site negotiating gender, sexuality, and authority. The project was also included in the university’s "Pride in Research" symposium highlighting the intersection of art, research, and social justice.

This performance builds on PASHIAS’ ongoing "Body + Exhibit" methodology, launched in 2014, which investigates the relationship between the human body, museum artifacts, and mythology to address contemporary issues. The artist has collaborated with numerous cultural institutions worldwide, emphasizing the relevance of archaeology and mythology in understanding modern societal urgencies.
