Services at Apostolos Andreas Monastery in Rizokarpaso to Resume After Two-Month Suspension

Services at the Apostolos Andreas monastery in Rizokarpaso will resume this Sunday after being suspended for over two months. The resumption was made possible following President Nikos Christodoulides' direct intervention with the Turkish Cypriot side, leading to an agreement to continue the religious services held on the first Sunday of each month. The announcement was made by the Office of the Presidential Commissioner, which emphasized the importance of unhindered religious rights and respect for places of worship.

Located in the Karpass peninsula, Apostolos Andreas monastery is a significant religious site for the Greek Cypriot community. Historically, it is believed that Saint Andrew arrived at the location after his ship went off course on the way to Jerusalem. The monastery’s fortified structure dates back to the 12th century, with the main church built in the 18th century and the current monastery buildings completed about a century later.

The Presidential Commissioner’s office has stressed that it will continue to monitor the situation with consistency and responsibility to ensure ongoing access and respect for this important religious site.
