⚡ Cyprus, ExxonMobil, and QatarEnergy Advance Development of Glaucus and Pegasus Gas Fields
The Republic of Cyprus, ExxonMobil, and QatarEnergy have signed a tradability statement for the Glaucus and Pegasus gas fields, marking a significant advancement in Cyprus' energy program. This agreement signals the transition of these fields to the next phase of development, paving the way for Cyprus to begin exploiting its natural gas resources.
ExxonMobil's Vice President, John Ardill, indicated that the final investment decision for these fields is expected by 2029, with production anticipated to start by 2033. The companies also plan to reprocess existing seismic data for further exploration in Blocks Four and Ten A, which will help guide future drilling activities.
This progress comes amid shifting regional energy dynamics and the growing need for energy security in Europe. Since Cyprus' first discovery in its Exclusive Economic Zone in 2011, sustained political, diplomatic, and technical efforts alongside regional cooperation have been crucial in advancing the country's potential as a strategic energy corridor in the Eastern Mediterranean.
