🌍 Cyprus Cabinet extends Deputy Ministry for European Affairs until end of 2026

The Cyprus Cabinet has approved the extension of the Deputy Ministry for European Affairs' operations until December 31, 2026, a decision now awaiting urgent parliamentary review. This extension is crucial as the current term ends on July 31, and swift approval is needed given Parliament's limited sessions before summer recess.

President of the Republic emphasized the importance of maintaining the Deputy Ministry and European units within ministries to retain the technical expertise gained during Cyprus's EU Presidency. The move aims to support ongoing European processes, including the Multiannual Financial Framework negotiations under the Irish Presidency.

Deputy Minister Marilena Raouna confirmed that the Secretariat for European Affairs will continue coordinating Cyprus's EU affairs beyond July. She rejected notions that smaller EU member states like Cyprus are vulnerable to external pressures, highlighting the country's resilient diplomacy and significant contributions to EU policy, especially regarding Ukraine and enlargement issues. Raouna remains in her role, dismissing rumors of cabinet reshuffle or reassignment.
