Menogeia Detention Centre to Open as Temporary Holding Facility to Alleviate Police Cell Overcrowding
The Menogeia Detention Centre will be brought into operation as a temporary holding facility to address overcrowding in police cells and improve detention conditions. This decision was made by Justice Minister Costas Fytiris during a meeting with senior police officials and representatives from the Department of Public Works.
Minister Fytiris has ordered that all necessary works and arrangements be carried out promptly to ensure the facility can be operational by mid-September. The move aims to provide relief to the congested police detention areas while improving overall conditions for detainees.
The Ministry of Justice emphasized the urgency of the project and confirmed that efforts will continue to meet the targeted operational date in the coming weeks.
