Official data from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) reveals that standalone solar applications dropped from 38,856 in 2025 to just 1,835 in the first eight months of 2026. Meanwhile, applications including battery storage have increased slightly, signaling that some buyers with available funds are prioritizing integrated systems to maximize savings.
Battery storage systems allow homeowners to store surplus solar energy generated during the day and use it during evening peak hours when electricity costs are higher, reducing dependency on the grid and lowering bills. This shift comes as Cyprus faces grid challenges due to increased renewable energy connections, totaling approximately 1,200 MW, which puts pressure on infrastructure and necessitates curtailment during low-demand periods.
To manage grid stability, the EAC is advancing large-scale utility battery storage projects at key power stations, including Dhekelia, Moni, and Vasilikos.
