Man suffers severe burns lighting cigarette near refuelling car at Larnaca petrol station
A 38-year-old man sustained second- and third-degree burns after attempting to light a cigarette next to a refuelling car at a petrol station in the Larnaca district. The incident occurred around midnight when a 32-year-old Greek Cypriot was filling his vehicle with fuel. The injured man’s action caused a fire that was quickly extinguished by bystanders.
Both men were taken to Larnaca A&E for treatment. The 32-year-old was treated for minor burns and discharged, while the 38-year-old was hospitalized with serious burns mainly affecting his lower limbs. Kofinou police are investigating the incident as a case involving negligent and reckless behaviour.
