Lightning-triggered fire severely damages Avgorou home, family temporarily displaced
A lightning strike ignited a fire in a storage room that caused extensive damage to an adjacent house in Avgorou, forcing a family of three to leave their home temporarily. The fire impacted both the outbuilding and the house, with an explosion shattering windows and allowing smoke to enter the residence.
Ayia Napa municipality has arranged for the displaced family to stay in a hotel for three days at its expense. Officials including Ayia Napa mayor Christos Zanettos, civil defence personnel, and a social worker were present at the scene to provide support.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, with electricians and mechanical services experts scheduled to inspect the site to confirm the fire’s cause and assess safety conditions.
