Musical tribute to Nikos Xylouris coming to Cyprus in September
A musical theatre production honoring the legendary Cretan lyra player and singer Nikos Xylouris will be performed in Cyprus this September. The show marks 90 years since Xylouris's birth and follows a sold-out run in Athens that attracted nearly 40,000 spectators.
The performance will be held on September 11 at Limassol Garden Theatre, September 12 and 13 at Strovolos Municipal Theatre as part of its 10th Theatre Festival, and September 14 at Pattichio Amphitheatre in Larnaca. The production showcases Xylouris's life from his childhood under Nazi occupation to his musical success in 1970s Athens.
Written by Zacharenia Petraki and directed by Nikorestis Chaniotakis, the show features live music, rare archival materials, and narration based on memories from Xylouris's life partner. Arrangements highlight beloved Xylouris songs curated by Ross Daly, while the cast brings to life significant figures connected to Xylouris's artistic journey.
