Cyprus allocates €106 million to increase and simplify disability benefits through 2028
The Cyprus government has announced an additional €106 million allocation to boost state benefits for disabled individuals between 2024 and 2028. Benefits for families with disabled children under 18 will rise from €848 to €935 monthly, while those for disabled adults will increase from €368 to €405. These adjustments will apply retroactively from January and be paid within the year's final quarter without requiring new applications.
Significantly, the government will begin decoupling disability benefits from family income for people with severe disabilities, recognizing that disability-related costs arise regardless of income levels. Enhanced subsidies for social enterprises hiring people with disabilities will also rise from €10,000 to €25,000 until 2030, promoting greater employment opportunities.
Additional measures include post-secondary education programs for people with disabilities over 22, personalised education plans, and the opening of day centres financed with €4 million in government funding. These centres will provide 30 educational programs and offer €300 transit grants to attendees, aiming to improve inclusion and professional empowerment for disabled citizens across Cyprus.
