€245,000 Contract Signed for New Environmental Centre at Larnaca Salt Lakes

A €245,000 contract was signed for the construction of an environmental centre at Larnaca's salt lakes, a protected Natura 2000 area. The project, co-funded by the EU under the Thalia 2021-2027 programme, will take 44 months to complete and is expected to be finished by 2029.

The environmental centre aims to inform the public and raise awareness about the ecological significance of the salt lakes. It will feature a new building, landscaping efforts including pathways, an observatory, rest areas, information signs, and the planting of endemic plant species to protect the Natura 2000 area.

Larnaca municipality confirmed the centre will be operated by the environment department once completed. Mayor Andreas Vyras emphasized that the project will highlight the natural beauty of the salt lakes and strengthen visitors’ connection with Larnaca’s environment.
