Replica of Aphrodite of Lefkolla installed at Paralimni-Dherynia town hall
A scientifically accurate replica of the monumental Aphrodite of Lefkolla head has been installed at the Paralimni-Dherynia town hall in a specially designed showcase. This replica marks a symbolic return of the important ancient artifact to the area where it was originally discovered. The bust, carved from local limestone, is a prime example of 4th-century BC Cypriot sculpture and was part of a larger sculptural ensemble in an ancient sanctuary.
The display, designed and installed by museum specialist Manolis Kamasas, has been praised by Mayor George Nicolettos for its careful presentation of a historically significant artifact. The original sculpture is currently housed in Berlin's Neues Museum, with the replica created in collaboration with Humboldt University Berlin's archaeology department at the municipality's request.
The statue’s distinctive wall-like crown symbolizes Aphrodite as the city’s protector, highlighting the goddess's important cultural role in ancient Lefkolla, now part of the Protaras-Paralimni area.
