Solar Farm Installed to Power Mia Milia Wastewater Treatment Plant in Nicosia District
A new solar farm with a capacity of 1,081 kilowatt-peak has been installed to supply electricity to the bicommunal Mia Milia wastewater treatment plant, the Nicosia district government announced. The facility aims to reduce the plant’s environmental footprint by using solar energy for part of its power needs.
The project, constructed by the United Nations Development Programme and funded by the European Union, was connected and supervised by the team of Turkish Cypriot Nicosia mayor Mehmet Harmanci. Officials highlighted the strong coordination between the Nicosia district government and municipal teams throughout the process.
With the solar farm now operational, this development marks a significant step towards more sustainable wastewater management practices in the region, leveraging renewable energy to improve environmental outcomes.
