The Sirens' Call Women’s Charity Swim Raises €20,000 for Cyprus Palliative Care
The Sirens’ Call, a women-only 1km charity swim held in Paralimni, Cyprus, successfully raised over €20,000 during its second edition in August 2026. The event supports the Arodaphnousa Palliative Care Centre of the Cyprus Anticancer Society, encouraging women of all ages and swimming abilities to participate in a communal and empowering experience.
Founded over 20 years ago by a group of friends who dubbed themselves the "Sirens," the swim has evolved into a meaningful annual gathering to honor loved ones lost to cancer. Co-organizer Bobbe Theoklitou, who lost her husband to pancreatic cancer, described the swim as a space for friendship, healing, and remembrance. Participants are guided through the course by sea scouts and enjoy a supportive atmosphere marked by camaraderie and celebration.
The event’s growth is evident in the participation of 120 women, sponsorship by Paralimni Municipality, and professional coverage by drones and photographers. Proceeds from the swim and donations help fund vital care services for cancer patients in Cyprus, making The Sirens’ Call an inspiring example of community solidarity and charitable action.
