CYMEPA urges coastal residents to join online survey on shipping decarbonisation awareness
The Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA) is calling on Cypriot citizens, especially those living in coastal areas, to participate in the second wave of an online survey as part of the METAVASEA project. The survey, which takes about 10 minutes to complete anonymously, aims to gauge public perceptions, knowledge, and concerns regarding the decarbonisation of the shipping industry.
As shipping moves towards lower-emission technologies and alternative fuels, this transition affects not only the maritime sector but also coastal communities and the broader society. The survey’s findings will help identify public awareness levels and educational needs in the East Mediterranean region.
The first wave of the survey revealed that while there is strong concern about climate change and the importance of reducing shipping emissions, significant gaps remain in public understanding of shipping’s greenhouse gas contributions. METAVASEA is a five-year project focusing on the green and digital shift in maritime industries, supported by key partners including CYMEPA and funded by Lloyd’s Register Foundation.
