Paphos municipality installs 55 cameras to combat vandalism and crime in public spaces
The Paphos municipality has installed 55 cameras in public areas to address rising crime and vandalism, Acting Mayor Angelos Onisiforou announced at a recent meeting. The initiative aims to protect public property and reduce anti-social behavior in the city.
Additional plans include installing 60 more cameras after necessary infrastructure such as solar-powered poles and memory storage is set up. Authorities from neighboring municipalities and police representatives have agreed on a unified approach to manage surveillance footage responsibly.
The protocol involves cooperation between local authorities and law enforcement to ensure footage is used effectively without infringing on privacy. The officials emphasized that surveillance is intended to safeguard public assets, not to create a "big brother" environment.
