Cyprus unemployment rate drops to 3.6% in Q2 2026 amid rising employment
Cyprus' unemployment rate fell to 3.6% in the second quarter of 2026, down from 4.3% a year earlier, supported by a 2.9% increase in employment to over 520,000 people, according to the latest labour force survey by Cystat. The overall employment rate rose to 63.2%, while the labour force expanded by 2.1%, reaching approximately 540,000 people.
Employment growth was particularly strong among women, with female employment increasing by 4.4% and their employment rate rising to 58.3%. Meanwhile, male employment increased by 1.5% with a slight rise in the employment rate to 68.5%. Services remained the largest employment sector, accounting for 81.8% of jobs, while industry and agriculture saw slight declines in their share of employment.
The number of unemployed individuals decreased by 14.5% to 19,367, with youth unemployment also dropping significantly to 12.2%. Short-term unemployment accounted for a growing share, as 62.4% of unemployed people had been job searching for less than six months, indicating an improving labour market in Cyprus.
