Larnaca launches €6.2 million upgrades in Ayios Ioannis focusing on sustainable mobility
Larnaca is advancing with the final phase of the Ayios Ioannis neighbourhood overhaul, investing €6.2 million in road, pavement, and public space improvements prioritizing pedestrians, cyclists, and accessibility. The project was discussed by Mayor Andreas Vyras and the community council during a meeting at the Ayios Ioannis Theologos church yard, where residents were informed about upcoming roadworks and traffic diversions.
The comprehensive plan includes resurfacing roads, widening pavements, restructuring parking areas, creating dedicated bus lanes, and relocating utility networks underground to promote sustainable mobility. Additionally, the initiative will enhance green spaces through tree planting and will emphasize the historical and cultural significance of the area.
Co-funded by the Republic of Cyprus and the Larnaca municipality, the extensive project is expected to span 24 months, aiming to transform Ayios Ioannis into a model neighbourhood for sustainable urban living.
