Mazotos residents to protest again against mobile desalination unit threatening local environment
Residents of Mazotos are organizing a second protest against the installation of a mobile desalination unit in the Petounta area. The protest is scheduled for Saturday, August 29 at 6pm in the community square near the Church of Agios Georgios. The newly formed Initiative Group for the Rescue of the Mazotos Coast expressed concern over the expected environmental impact of the heavy industrial installation.
The group warned the project could cause significant and irreversible damage to both the land and sea environments, including the extensive posidonia meadows on the seabed. They highlighted risks to the ecological balance and the degradation of the natural landscape, which may directly affect residents’ quality of life. In addition to public protests, the community has taken legal action seeking a suspension order to halt implementation of the project.
