Two Nicosia Hunters Fined €6,180 for Illegal Hunting in Paphos District
Two hunters from Nicosia were fined a total of €6,180 after being caught illegally hunting in the Paphos district community of Miliou during the first enforcement action of the summer hunting season. The men were found hunting in a prohibited area near homes using weapons owned by one of them. When officers returned later the same day, one man was in possession of ten wood pigeons.
Each hunter was fined €2,000 for hunting in a banned area and €1,000 for illegal transportation of hunting weapons. The individual with the wood pigeons received an additional €180 under legislation penalizing the possession of birds beyond the first, bringing his total to €3,180, while the other man was fined €3,000.
According to Cyprus Police, 12 citations were issued during 300 checks conducted island-wide during the opening of the hunting season, highlighting ongoing enforcement efforts to prevent illegal hunting activities.
