Cameroonian Footballer Charles Eloundou Released from Limnes Detention Centre in Cyprus
Charles Eloundou, a 31-year-old Cameroonian footballer and key prosecution witness in a criminal case, was recently released from the Limnes Pre-Removal Migrant Detention Centre in Cyprus. He had been detained due to the absence of a valid residence permit. Eloundou, who has played for several Cypriot clubs including Anorthosis, Nea Salamina, and Ethnikos Achna, had applied to renew his permit eight months prior but became entangled in bureaucratic delays.
The Pan-Cyprian Footballers' Association (PASP) intervened, requesting his release while the permit renewal was processed. PASP's executive president, Spyros Neofytidis, secured Eloundou's release after receiving approval from authorities, including Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum Nicholas A. Ioannides and Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis. Eloundou is married to a French national, a fact that factored into the case's consideration by police authorities.
