University of Nicosia Second-Year Architecture Students Dominate Global Community Urban Farm Competition with Gaza Project

Second-year architecture students at the University of Nicosia won top prizes and several honourable mentions in the global "Community Urban Farm" architecture competition. Competing against architects and students worldwide, the students' projects were centered on Gaza as part of their spring semester studio. Marilia Petrou and Vlada Dovguchits secured first prize, while Despina Ignatiou earned third place.

The competition was integrated into the Architecture Department’s main spring semester course focusing on architecture’s role in humanitarian contexts. Students developed the "Community HOME GROWN" project, selecting Gaza as the design site to address urgent community needs.

The studio course was led by lecturers Angela Kyriacou Petrou, Afra Omidi, Teresa Tourvas, and Yiorgos Hadjichristou. Honourable mentions were awarded to multiple students including Meto Hisotoci, Daria Shevchenko, and others, recognizing the department's strong performance on an international stage.
