A Cypriot firm named Sodasus Ltd attempted to sell 279 speed cameras embedded with hidden Russian SIM cards to the Slovak government while falsely claiming the devices were manufactured in Cyprus. Investigations revealed that the cameras were actually produced by Simicon, a St Petersburg-based company, and contained multiple security vulnerabilities, including the ability to receive commands via SMS from numbers registered in Russia.
Slovakia's national security bureau halted the testing of these cameras upon discovering the hidden second SIM card slots and potential for remote interference. Sodasus Ltd, registered in Nicosia since 2021, has no documented history of manufacturing activities on the island, raising questions about whether the cameras were imported into Cyprus before export.
