Cypriot Andreas Nikolaou completes first-ever run around entire Cyprus coastline covering 700km in 8 days
Cypriot ultra-runner Andreas Nikolaou has made history by becoming the first recorded person to run the entire coastline of Cyprus, covering over 700 kilometres in seven days, 22 hours and 35 minutes. Starting from Molos Pier in Limassol on July 20, 2026, Nikolaou battled extreme heat, severe fatigue, and minimal sleep to complete the challenge on July 27.
The feat involved running an average of 88.4km per day with 8,505 metres of elevation gain, equivalent to nearly the height of Mount Everest, and burning around 52,186 calories. Despite careful mental and physical preparation over eight years, Nikolaou faced significant challenges including running for 20 hours in temperatures exceeding 35C and getting less than six hours of broken sleep per night.
Supported by a dedicated crew and guided by his endurance coach Stefan Stankovic, Nikolaou maintained a relentless pace through night running and strategic rest. He attributed his success to consistent daily training over years rather than short-term intensity, emphasizing mental resilience and determination over motivation. This historic run was also a fundraising effort benefiting the Sigma Foundation and Little Heroes.
