British Bases police make 34 arrests including DUI cases and investigate arson and drug offenses

British Bases (BB) police made 34 arrests over the past week for various offences, including eight cases of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Officers are investigating four separate drug cases, with cocaine found in three instances. Additionally, 30 road safety campaigns were conducted, resulting in 63 fixed penalty notices and 25 breathalyser tests.

In Dhekelia, BB police successfully completed a joint search and rescue operation that rescued two men unharmed off the coast. The operation highlighted recent concerns over drowning incidents in Cyprus, prompting warnings from Assistant Chief Constable Melina Papagrigoriou about rapidly changing sea conditions.

Police are also probing an arson attack involving vehicle fires in the Akrotiri Bases area, suspected to be deliberate. The investigation into the motive and circumstances is ongoing. Papagrigoriou emphasized the demanding week, with officers balancing emergency responses and proactive policing to maintain public safety across the Bases.
