Nicosia district partners with Thessaloniki water company for GIS expertise in €257,699 contract
The Nicosia district government has signed a €257,699 contract with the Thessaloniki Water Supply and Sewerage Company (Eyath) to receive expertise in geographic information systems (GIS). The contract, effective for 38 months, focuses on creating a unified geospatial database, developing GIS infrastructure, and training Nicosia staff. Eyath will also provide expertise in network management, customer service, and business optimization.
District Governor Constantinos Yiorkadjis emphasized that the partnership supports the digital transformation of Nicosia's infrastructure management, enabling faster decisions and improved responsiveness. Eyath’s CEO Anthimos Amanatidis described the cooperation as mutually beneficial, highlighting the company's recent expansion to cover a wider region in Greece.
This expansion follows a recent Greek law extending Eyath’s jurisdiction beyond Thessaloniki to the neighboring Chalkidiki region, including added responsibilities such as irrigation and rainwater management. The law also grants Eyath exclusive water and sewer services rights in the enlarged area through 2038, with governance adjustments involving local municipal representation.
