Bogdan Zabelinskiy secures Cyprus' first medal with silver in men’s cycling time trial at Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games
Cyprus claimed its first medal at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games as Bogdan Zabelinskiy won silver in the men’s individual cycling time trial. Zabelinskiy completed the 17-kilometre course in 20:14.14, narrowly missing gold by just over eight seconds to Portugal’s Tiago Gomes Antunes. Rafael Ferreira Reis of Portugal took bronze, finishing just half a second behind Zabelinskiy.
In other events, Andreas Miltiades finished 12th in the men’s time trial, while three-time Olympian Andri Christoforou placed 11th in the women’s cycling event. In swimming, Kalia Antoniou narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in the women’s 50m butterfly with a personal best of 26.41 seconds.
The Cypriot delegation continues its campaign with 15 athletes competing across seven sports, including the debut of the national handball team at the Mediterranean Games. Bogdan Zabelinskiy is the son of Olga Zabelinskiy, a Russian-born Uzbekistani cyclist and three-time Olympic medalist.
