Cyprus summer hunting season starts with 17,000 hunters expected and strict safety measures
Cyprus’s summer hunting season officially began today and will continue every Sunday until 13 September, with additional hunting days on Wednesdays 2, 9, and 16 September. Authorities anticipate around 17,000 hunters to participate, with the Game and Fauna Service, Cyprus Hunting Federation, and Forestry Department urging hunters to prioritize safety and environmental protection.
During the opening days, hunters may target wood pigeons, rock doves, and francolins, while turtle dove and quail hunting will commence on 2 September. All hunters must declare their catch using the electronic “Artemis” application before leaving hunting sites. Police and the Anti-Poaching Squad will conduct patrols island-wide to prevent poaching and unauthorized hunting, while providing assistance as needed.
Hunters are reminded to carry their hunting licenses and firearm permits at all times and to wear highly visible clothing for safety. Authorities stress the need for caution due to increased fire risks and encourage respect for the environment, fellow hunters, and the law. In emergencies, hunters should call 112 immediately.
