Viva.com awarded Cyprus state electronic payments contract after lengthy tender process
Viva.com has been awarded the contract to provide electronic transaction processing services for the Cypriot state, ending a four-year procurement process marked by multiple legal challenges. The contract, issued by the Treasury of the Republic of Cyprus, covers electronic payments between citizens, businesses, and the government, with transaction volumes expected to exceed €1.5 billion annually.
Under the contract, Viva.com will implement a multi-channel payment infrastructure allowing payments by card and account-to-account methods through the gov.cy platform’s centralized Payment Gateway. The company will manage online transactions via its Smart Checkout solution and install physical point-of-sale terminals using Tap on Any Device technology for public services across Cyprus.
The lengthy tender, initiated in January 2022, faced repeated appeals primarily by JCC Payment Systems Ltd, which were ultimately dismissed. Viva.com’s winning bid totaled €4.1 million, offering cost savings compared to competitors. The contract duration extends to approximately five and a half years, including integration and operational phases. This new infrastructure aims to improve convenience and reduce costs for citizens and the government alike.
