Famagusta Police Investigate Attempted Murder of Man Linked to 2016 Quadruple Murder Convict in Ayia Napa
Famagusta CID is intensifying its investigation into the attempted murder of a 33-year-old Greek Cypriot man in Ayia Napa. The victim, brother of a man convicted for a 2016 quadruple murder, survived after attackers fired more than 15 shots at his car early Friday morning in the Kokkines area. Police suspect the attack was intended to send a message to the prisoner.
Authorities discovered a vehicle linked to the incident burning in Avgorou shortly after the shooting. The car, a stolen Volvo with false license plates, is believed to have been used by the assailants. Investigators have collected cartridge casings and other evidence from both scenes and are reviewing CCTV footage to track the attackers' movements.
Officials suspect the case is connected to organised crime, raising concerns about safety in the region. The Forensic Investigation Service is currently analyzing the burned vehicle, while the investigation extends to Central Prisons to explore possible motives behind the attack.
