7th Ayios Ioannis Pitsilias Gastronomy Festival honors Chef Andreas Mavrommatis on August 30
The 7th Gastronomy Festival in Ayios Ioannis Pitsilias, held on August 30, pays tribute to the late Chef Andreas Mavrommatis, celebrating his journey from the Cypriot village to Paris's finest restaurants. Chefs from Mavromati restaurants in Paris will attend, sharing signature recipes created by Mavrommatis throughout his culinary career.
The festival begins at 11 am with a live link to Kanali 6 and features live baking of traditional Cypriot pastries like halloumi and olive pies, along with demonstrations of local delicacies and zivania distillation. The event also includes a dedication at the Municipal Library to honor Mavrommatis’s legacy and his influence on Mediterranean cuisine.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy cooking demonstrations by local chefs and grandmothers, guided tours of the 17th-century church, and evening performances featuring traditional dance ensembles and local singers. The festival runs from 11:30 am to midnight at the Central Square in Ayios Ioannis Pitsilia with free admission.
