Larnaca has been ranked the third-best destination in southern Europe for autumn shoulder-season getaways, according to the 2026 Shoulder Season Index by UK travel insurance comparison firm Quotezone. The Cypriot city scored highly based on favourable weather conditions, including an average temperature of 25.5°C, sea temperatures of 27°C, and low rainfall of just 12mm during September and October. This places Larnaca ahead of established Mediterranean spots such as Crete and Malta.
The index highlights a growing trend of travellers opting for autumn holidays due to extreme summer heat and rising costs, with 48% considering a shift away from peak summer months. Antalya in Turkey secured first place, followed by Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Quotezone noted that shoulder-season travel offers warm weather and fewer crowds, making destinations like Larnaca attractive for extended beach visits, particularly around Nissi Beach.
Experts stress the importance of booking travel insurance promptly for last-minute autumn breaks amid increasing popularity of this season.
