Sovereign Base Areas Police arrest 26 including drug and immigration offences during busy weekend
Sovereign Base Areas Police in western Cyprus made 26 arrests over the past week, including three on August 16 related to drugs and immigration after a vehicle stop. Officers found drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and the driver tested positive for crystal meth, while his two passengers were illegal immigrants and were also arrested. Additionally, a woman was remanded in custody for possession of drugs with intent to supply.
During the same period, the SBA Police issued 30 Fixed Penalty Notices and 47 written cautions, conducted 30 breath tests, and 3 drug tests. Their Marine Unit carried out 25 boat patrols, inspecting 46 vessels and 158 people during the busy Public Holiday weekend.
The weekend was also marked by a tragic incident at Lady’s Mile Beach where one individual lost their life after a sea emergency response by the Marine Unit. Temporary Superintendent Melina Papagregoriou extended sympathies and emphasized the importance of caution at sea, while reaffirming the police commitment to prevention and enforcement throughout the summer.
