Lefkara Mayor Raises Safety Concerns Over Pedestrian Use on Old Nicosia-Limassol Road

Lefkara Mayor Sophocles Sophocleous has expressed serious concerns about safety on the old main road connecting Nicosia and Limassol, particularly between the Larnaca district villages of Skarinou and Kofinou. The road is increasingly used by pedestrians, especially residents of the Kofinou migrant reception center during evening hours, raising the risk of accidents.

The mayor highlighted that the situation worsens on weekends due to higher traffic volumes and frequent events like weddings. He pointed out that the current infrastructure lacks adequate lighting, pavements, and parking spaces, making the area more hazardous. While local police are aware of the issue, Sophocleous emphasized that solving the problem requires coordinated efforts beyond law enforcement.

To address the risks, the mayor has called for a meeting with relevant authorities to develop comprehensive safety measures, underscoring that protecting human life must remain the top priority regardless of individuals’ origins.
