Customs seize 59 cartons of unmarked cigarettes at Cyprus crossing points

On Sunday, officers stopped a taxi carrying five Israeli nationals at Ayios Dometios and found 49 cartons of unmarked cigarettes. The tobacco was confiscated for destruction, and those involved were arrested but later released after a €4,000 out-of-court settlement.
The following day, customs stopped a taxi in Deryneia carrying a 49-year-old Israeli woman who had 10 cartons of unmarked cigarettes in her luggage. The cigarettes were also seized, and she was released after agreeing to a €600 settlement. These actions highlight ongoing efforts to curb smuggling and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at Cyprus border points.
